Here are a few other tips
We suggest to attend both tryout days. It gives the coaches a better chance to get a good view of an athletes ability and place them on the correct team. Another huge reason is that some athletes get nervous or anxious on the 1st day of tryouts.. especially of its the 1st time and they may not perform up to their best ability, so having a 2nd day to shine, we have found to be very helpful to our athletes/players.

There is a check-in process at WHS athletic department where will need to bring her proof of USAV membership, water bottle, comfortable volleyball shorts/spanx & shirt, good shoes for playing volleyball and a great attitude to have fun.
a
Some parents drop their athlete off at he check in station as each athlete will receive a NCWVBC Tryout “T” shirt, be assigned a number (to be marked on their thigh & calf so the coaches can see who they are, like in triathlons) (or get a paper sticker with the number) then get their picture taken and then they go tot he volleyball courts and are greeted by a coach. They pretty much stay on the court being evaluated for the entire time, except for water breaks…. its a fun and busy night for both coaches and athletes.
One common thread for all of us is that we love the game of Volleyball, and we love to see the team’s skill progression throughout the season. There are endless opportunities for you to grow as a person/athlete as you play.  The coaches and family grow in knowledge and understanding of the game as well. It is fun even when it is challenging! In fact it is the challenge that makes it great.
Tryouts are in that challenging category. Very challenging! It is challenging for the players, the coaches, the organization and the families. But what would it be like if we didn’t try? If we were afraid to take risks? That would be a tragic loss.  Serious athletes in all sports know they risk disappointment at every turn. Challenges = Reward.
So try out! If you love the game and want to play the game, do it! There is a team out there for you. When you make that team, do your part to create a great environment both on and off the court. You won’t regret it!
While in tryouts:
  1. Be confident and relaxed. Believe in yourself.
  2. Check yourself in (do not let your mom or dad do it for you).
  3. Arrive early properly attired. Wear something noticeable that will stand out.
  4. Just play the game the way you know how. You will make mistakes. Volleyball is a game of errors. Let your mistakes go.  Coaches want to see a “next ball” kind of mentality.
  5. Compete when you are on the floor. Go after every ball. Do the little things.
  6. Talk. On the court. Off the court. Players make teams all the time because they talk and talk a lot.
  7. Support your teammates. You are bound by your love of the game. Cheer their success. Be active and aggressive in a good way. Coaches watch players as much when they are off the court as on.
  8. Enjoy the process. It is unique and challenging and those qualities bring honor to those who take part.
  9. It is a tryout, not a clinic. It is your job to show the coaches what you can do. Kids will be moving from court to court. No matter what, keep working hard and keep having fun.
In most cases not making a specific team is an affirmation of another player, and it can feel like a rejection of you personally. It is natural to feel this way.  Recognize it is a tough job for coaches to put together teams. They have to make difficult choices. If you don’t make the team of your dreams, congratulate yourself on trying out and doing your best. Remember that you will grow in your skills and knowledge on any team that you are placed on!
Club volleyball can be one of the best experiences of your life.
Good luck this season!
